Within the H Hotel in Midland, Michigan lives The H.H. Dow Leadership Academy, a leadership training center for Dow Chemical Company’s employees throughout North America. In 2008, extensive renovations were underway for the H Hotel when property managers decided to address the water issues with the nearly 10,000 square foot courtyard within the H.H. Dow Academy. The courtyard had chronic leaking issues and water repeatedly found its way into the garage below, leading property managers to seek out a new waterproofing system for the outdoor area.
After being asked by the construction management company to help create a waterproofing solution for the space, Bloom Roofing devised plans for an 80 mil Sika Sarnafil system that could be applied to the courtyard’s leaking system in addition to the other renovations to the H Hotel. Completing the installation during the coldest months of the year, Bloom’s expert team used portable heaters and temporary shelters to reduce construction down time and keep the building’s walls warm. The waterproofing installation also included an Electric Field Vector Mapping (EFVM) system, which uses low voltage circuitry to identify and monitor for leaks and water damage. This state-of-the-art waterproofing solution eventually lead to the job being selected in 2008 as first place for Waterproofing Systems in Sika Sarnafil’s Roofing Projects of the Year Competition.
